From the Cass Community Social Services website:
Volunteers will help prepare the Brady Building for residents handling demolition, dry wall, painting, cabinet installation as well as moving in furniture and putting up window treatments. The work will be handled one apartment at a time until the entire building is ready. Five of the units have been renovated and eight remain.
The building is almost next to Mom’s Place II at 1405 Webb Ave., in the first block east of the M-10 Lodge Freeway. Exit at Webb Ave. It has thirteen apartments for formerly homeless men and women. The residents will be able to stay indefinitely because the program is permanent supportive housing. Its inclusion in the main Cass campus will mean that tenants will be able to walk to work at the warehouse and educational and social activities at the Scott building.
The building is named in memory of Father Mel Brady, who was one of the four founders of Oasis Detroit. Oasis Detroit provided permanent supportive housing for homeless men and women with mental illnesses. Oasis Detroit meerged with CCSS in 2007.
